Career information

Brief history since leaving University

After graduating I still planned to study medicine, so I worked at my local acute hospital as a healthcare assistant and phlebotomist for 18 months. However in this time I realised that medicine was not for me - I wanted to effect change at a population level and focus on prevention and improving populations' wellbeing and realising I (still) loved maths and demography, I embarked on a 6 month internship as a project research and support officer in the Public Health department of Kent County Council. I then moved to Southampton to study MSc Public Health (Global Health) where I graduated with Distinction in December 2016. After that I had a temporary job as a finance assistant back with PH department at KCC and then in July 2017 I accepted the post of Performance Officer in Adult Social Care & Health directorate of KCC where I have been working ever since.

Where do I see myself in the future?

I plan to progress to a more senior position and/or management either within my team, KCC or other health and social care public sector body.
