Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.

About the job

Main responsibilities

I am part of the UK - insurance market team, responsible for new product development, marketing, operational management and quality assurance.

Typical day

I have a broad range of day-to-day activities involving meeting with advertising agencies, public relations agencies, marketing executives, etc. to formulate and implement most effective communication methods and channels. I also manage various communication processes within and outside the team, and work with team members on fostering brand management activities.

What do I enjoy about my job?

Working with various third-party service providers, meeting people from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds, recognition of success and support from peers and leaders.

Challenging aspects

Working on very tight timeline and on multiple projects simultaneously.

Why did this area of work appeal to me?

My long-term career goal is to be a successful marketer and this role provides me the opportunity to get exposure to a wide variety of marketing activities, right from generation of ideas to the final stage of execution.

Skills/qualifications I use in my job?

Marketing and brand management knowledge, effective communication, presentation skills, multi-tasking abilities, prioritizing and organizing workflow, building and leveraging relationships, detailed and thorough analysis.

Training I receive as part of my job

Building negotiation skills, leveraging confidence and work with less guidance,

Where do I see myself in the future?

I want to excel in the field of advertising, brand promotion and management activities to drive an organisation's brand value, customer loyalty and financials, with strong communication, negotiation and partner management skills.


Advice to students

My piece of advice to students

Determining what areas you are interested in, as per your skill set. Work on areas where you can develop further, gain valuable transferable skills through part-time or vocational work. It is important to research various organisations and identify where you want to apply and why. Finally, it is necessary to stay focused and optimistic to get the right job that you want.
