Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.

About the job

Main responsibilities

To assist and provide guidance for the Native Teacher (Japanese) to teach English.
To conduct a pilot study (of new curriculum) by the Ministry of Education, Japan.
To assess students and teachers performance (pilot study result) and report back to the Ministry of Education, Japan.

Typical day

Formal Classroom Teaching (English Language).
Materials Development.
Assessing Students' Performance.
Assessing Teachers' Performance.
Guiding / Aiding Japanese teachers in teaching English.
Conducting a pilot study by the Ministry of Education, Japan.

What do I enjoy about my job?

- able to observe the acquisition of English Language in different context. (L1 background, time-exposure towards the target language, and other parameters).
- able to collect data (in term of phonetics & phonology) for my future research; to compare other contexts (ex: Japanese English - Malaysian English)

Challenging aspects

Communication Gap; with the Native Speaker of Japanese during lesson planning and meeting for classroom activities.

Why did this area of work appeal to me?

While earning, I am able to be on the ground-zero and give a great opportunity for me to collect data for different parameters in variety of context for my personal study in the future.

Statistic (to collect, sort and process all the data)
Academic Writing
English Teaching Domain (pedagogy, material development, assessment etc.)
Japanese Language (Communication level)

Qualification: MA Applied Linguistics with TESOL

- to further my study in Doctoral Degree level (Applied Linguistics; phonetics & phonology).
