Marketing Manager

Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.

About the job

Main responsibilities

I am in charge of acquiring qualified traffic to our websites as well as promoting our brands internationally. I am also the main contributor to our marketing blog, manage the social media accounts and organize marketing events to promote our brands.

Typical day

A typical day in my role is managing our brand's online presence i.e. discovering what people are saying about us, animating the social media accounts and acquiring people to sign-up to our tools. It also involves creating pertinent content for our blog and increasing our online presence as much as possible.

What do I enjoy about my job?

I love seeing the startup progress and develop. What's also great is that as I was the first in the marketing department I was completely free to bring in new ideas and understand what works and doesn't.

Why did this area of work appeal to me?

This area of work is great because everyday is different. Digital Marketing allows you to do so many things and be creative too! I also work for a startup so it's great see the business develop and flourish.

Career information

Brief history since leaving University

Once I graduated I moved to France and was a University English Teacher in the North of France for 2 years (2015-2017). This was a great opportunity of allowing me to come back to France and work. After my contract was over I decided it was time to start thinking about my career in Marketing. I did a 6-month internship in a French Digital Marketing Agency (April 2016-September 2017), then I found a full-time job at a French startup as a Marketing Manager (October 2017- present).

Where do I see myself in the future?

I would love to work for a slightly bigger company as Head of Digital Marketing/SEO. At the moment I love living in France and I am gaining valuable experience in this startup and really want to see it grow.

Advice to students

My piece of advice to students

Don't be afraid to do something that isn't exactly related to your area of study. I was a teacher for 2 years and I didn't even want to be a teacher, but it was an opportunity that I couldn't miss to come and work in France. You're still young when you graduate so it's important to take advantage of different opportunities before settling down. I don't regret at all my path and it's important to find an area that you love.
