There are busy times of the year, and the customers we have spend millions of dollars with us so there is some pressure there. Keeping on top of library, research and science trends is really important.
I really enjoy working at a global publisher; the science journals we publish are really contributing to the world of science and medicine. There are great travel opportunities and the roles here are so varied there is always a chance to try something new and get involved in new projects.
Marketing and advertising skills, you have to be able to write in the right tone for different aims. There is also a lot of multi-tasking because a lot of the campaigns we do are multi-lingual.
After I graduated I worked in customer service at a fashion company in Oxford. I told them I was interested in marketing and social media so they slowly gave me more and more marketing responsibility. I worked for three years doing marketing until I wanted a chance to write about something more substantial.
I really enjoy working in publishing, I would like to stay in this career because its so varied and there are a lot of publishers around.
We have a lot of internship programs, and there are a lot of publishing conferences. If you are a new graduate then apply for a coordinator role which is entry level and you will move up in no time.
