Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.

About the job

Main responsibilities

Visitors are a vital part of what we do. As a charity every penny we raise goes back into our continued conservation of our places and spaces. As the manager for the membership and visitor welcome team, I lead by example, seizing all opportunities to grow our income at the visitor welcome, from promoting the benefits of our membership. I am responsible for inspiring my team to achieve membership targets, as well as delivering my own.

I coach and motivate the team to ensure a high standard of customer service. I am also responsible for the presentation of the visitor reception and make sure my team is always aware of what’s happening at the property. I share the amazing work we do and what work conservation work is being funded.

Typical day

There is no typical day - especially when you are duty manager for your property!

Career information

Brief history since leaving University

After leaving Sheffield I immediately began working in catering. I knew this wasn't where I wanted to be, and wanted to put my degree to good use. Living in the lakes meant the National Trust was one way I could use my degree and develop my passion for environmental conservation. I started out as a membership recruiter and quickly rose to lead my own team.

Where do I see myself in the future?

I would like to manage membership across a portfolio of properties and eventually rise to be a consultant for the National Trust.

Advice to students

My piece of advice to students
