Graduate case studies
Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.
Leadership, management (staff, finance, processes etc).
To be honest I'd struggle to define a 'typical' day though the majority seem to have lots of meetings! If my days are characterised by anything it's variety. But it's working with people in a variety of different roles and communication that are common themes.
This University, like others, can make a major contribution to the 'public good' - providing great learning and teaching that enriches individual experience, research that positively affects people's lives, and many other benefits - and it's good to play a small part in supporting that.
People and relationships - always the most rewarding but equally, in management terms, always the most demanding. The external environment is currently interesting....
I fell into it really - I was a mature student anyway and had managed to put off getting a proper job for quite a while beforehand - but once I started in University administration and management I found I quite enjoyed it.
Communication skills - and actually, the compulsory module on statistics for social scientists I hated doing has come in handy occasionally!
