Main responsibilities

Developing a new global platform for the authentication and verification of customer identities in the form of various microservices.

Typical day

As the Software Engineers we are responsible for developing the microservices for the authentication and verification of customer identities as well as testing them.

A typical day involves spending a significant amount of time developing RESTful APIs using Java 8, MongoDB, Spring Boot and Gradle. In addition, working closely with analysts to gather requirements and define stories in an agile environment.

What do I enjoy about my job?

There is a lot of hands on programming which enables me to do what I love. In addition, Barclays is full of interesting people who are very welcoming. I am constantly learning new things and developing my skills.

Why did this area of work appeal to me?

I have always enjoyed programming and love the sense of satisfaction when a feature you have personally contributed to is released to the public.

Programming.
Teamwork.
Communication.
Problem Solving.

The skills gained through my BEng Software Engineering Degree have proven to be useful.

Brief history since leaving University

Started a Software Engineering role at Barclays.

Where do I see myself in the future?

I look forward to grow within Barclays and continue developing my skills. In the future I am looking to take on more senior roles within the division I work in at Barclays.
