Graduate case studies
Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.
I am responsible of leading a team for the delivery of projects as well as fostering client relationships. We advice our clients for their strategy in market access, pricing and reimbursement worldwide.
In a typical day I lead the team for the project activity for 50% of my time. This involve project management as well as offering senior input and review into work-in-progress project deliverables. The remaining 50% of my time is dedicated to coaching more junior member, seeking new business (business development activities) and other internal initiatives.
Being the reliable expert. I enjoy seeing my audience carefully listening to me and consider my advice so important in their business life.
The advice we give need to be always very clear, robust, and fit for purposes, and last but not least backed up from evidence. This is a very time consuming "task", and it is very challenging to be efficient and making sure you are prioritising the right thing. Also, to achieve the object, you need to get the client problem right, and this is again very challenging, requiring experience.
I am a pharmacist by training and passionate about the health care sector. At the same time I see myself in the role of expert/adviser and enjoying covering this type of roles.
Curiosity, logic, analytical skills, as well as communication skills, empathy, and the quality of being a good listener and observer.
During my MSc I have started my work in consulting as a senior analyst. I am now at a director level.
I see myself growing my career in consulting further, increasing my expertise and being recognised as an expert in the field or covering a leading position within a pharmaceuticla company. I may also continue to study, maybe get an additional master in epidemiology.
It is definitely a growing area, and I believe it will be a growing area in the future as every NHS trust will need to improve the way the evaluate and adopt pharmaceutical technologies. If you are starting your career, I would advice to try to cover both sides of the coin, the payer and the seller, and for payer I mean the public payer. Having both perspectives in your pocket may prove very powerful.
