Graduate case studies
Working closely with one or more senior members of staff and assisting in all aspects of their work.
It varies a lot depending on the department you're in, how busy it is and the matter you're working on. I'm currently sat in Real Estate so day-to-day work is typically any combination of legal research, drafting and reviewing documents and emailing and speaking to clients, but this is different to my last seat - Litigation and it's different again for other members of my intake in different seats.
I graduated in the summer of 2014 before returning to the University that September for the GDL. Whilst studying I successfully applied for DLA Piper's summer vacation scheme and got the job soon after. Most law firms recruit two years in advance and DLA is no exception, so I did a final year at the University studying the compulsory LPC and started my current job in the August of 2017.
I'd like to continue working in the legal sector. If everything goes according to plan I'll qualify in September 2019, and will hopefully carry on working for DLA Piper in their Sheffield office. The firm's got offices all over the world though, so if an opportunity came up I wouldn't be adverse to working abroad.
