Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.
Assisting partners and associate on a range of client matters
I arrive in the office around 9:30. I would have checked my e-mails on the way in to get an idea of what is ahead of me that day. After a quick coffee and a chat with fellow trainees, I go back to my desk to start my day.
My current seat is in energy project finance team. One of my ongoing tasks since I joined is management of a conditions precedents check-list on a large power plant deal in Africa which is about to close. This means chasing numerous parties - the borrower, banks, local lawyers - to gather about 300 documents which need to be produced before the deal can be signed. I send out couple of e-mails to the relevant parties and check with the responsible associate if anything else needs to be done.
As I return to my desk, I see an e-mail from another associate I work with. Our client is experiencing some problems with his project and needs to fire his main contractor. I am asked to look into the formalities
