About the job

Main responsibilities

Drive new sales and revenues on existing accounts within an established public sector account.
Develop opportunities to address client business needs with Atos capabilities and/or offerings.
Helping clients embrace new technology and take advantage of the positive changes that follow.
Leading sales teams through the new business cycle within Atos for offering clients with new proposition to improve business processes, applications and ways of working.

Typical day

A typical day begins at 8am and runs mostly through till 5:30pm on an evening. My work local is based between a number of Atos and Client locations, namely Darlington, Cumbria, Runcorn and London.

During a typical day I will attend and host a number of online telephony calls to discuss on-going sales opportunities both internally focused on constructing proposals and also with clients to confirm their scope of the projects they are requesting or we are proposing. During the week I will sit on and chair various review boards within my account. Other activities will involve reviewing the wording and financials of proposals we are issuing to the client. This will also involve communications with third parties who will be assisting with successful deliver of projects.

What do I enjoy about my job?

The daily interaction with many different colleagues and clients is highly refreshing and the broad array of daily activities keeps the working week exciting and posses new challenges which I enjoy.

You may find yourself one day working with the finance team regarding revenue forecasts

Challenging aspects

You are sometimes based in places with no other members of your team/account, such as working from home or in offices where other functions are based not relevant directly to the work you do. This can take some time to adapt to; as a young professional I want to be involved face to face with colleagues and clients as much as possible.

Why did this area of work appeal to me?

Technology is an ever changing industry that is both helping organisations evolve and grow, as well as eliminating some players around the globe.

I was really keen to work for a large blue chip organisation with massive revenues and globally based with an aim to work aboard during my career.

Skills/qualifications I use in my job?

I use all the legal and business skills I enhanced and gained during my Law degree and then during my Legal Practice course. Specifically this is focused around negotiation skills, drafting and reviewing skills.

I have undertaken a number of financial courses in addition, which are key in my role in terms of reporting sales and revenues.

Career information

Brief history since leaving University

Full-time employment straight from leaving university i.e. July 2014 - Current date. I am also part of the Juniors Global Talent Programme within Atos for the c.50 top talent across the globe for my seniority.

Where do I see myself in the future?

I see myself aiding large global business deals, which will range from mergers and acquisitions to large scale sales opportunities. This will also include running global divisions, owning P&L's and being responsible for direct reports.

To aid this career path I intend to study an MBA in the next 5 years.

Advice to students

My piece of advice to students

Find senior mentors who trust in your skills and buy into your career vision.
Always read up on the latest trends within the tech sector, as well as being in touch with global politics.
Ask questions and lots of them, there is a lot of jargon in the tech sector that can at times be confusing. Break down those jargon barriers by asking exactly what people mean.

Other comments

I am happy to be approached directly via LinkedIn by any current undergraduate or postgraduate students or any alumni from The University of Sheffield to provide career support, advice, guidance etc.
