Amy -
Chartered Landscape Architect

Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.

About the job

Main responsibilities

I support Project Landscape Architects on their projects and run aspects of some. I coordinate with architects, engineers and planners on my design work and assist in planning applications and implementation of our work.

Typical day

Most days I am in the office, working on drawings or reports. Occasionally I attend design team meetings for projects, visit sites for LVIA (Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment), or snagging work that has been implemented.

What do I enjoy about my job?

I enjoy making an impact to a space that people will use, live in, experience, and that we will hopefully make the world a more attractive, sustainable and functional place one design at a time!

Challenging aspects

Managing client expectations. Working with difficult co-consultants. Working with increasingly tight budgets for landscape.

Why did this area of work appeal to me?

I wanted to do something with art and design and my other interests were geography and the environment. Landscape Architecture is a perfect mix of the two.

Skills/qualifications I use in my job?

I recently passed my chartership exam which has assisted me in my day to day work and given me confidence in my job role.
