Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.

About the job

Main responsibilities

Tax consulting, finance consulting, cost controlling and budgeting

Typical day

Well, I can't say that I really have a "typical day" as each day is different. Based on the clients needs, my day can include: searching for the best tax solution (corporate tax, VAT etc.), searching for the best business model or finance line, or implementing the cost controlling system etc.

What do I enjoy about my job?

Challenges

Challenging aspects

New topics, new business fields, new legislation.

As clients are from different business areas and each area has special legislation or requirements, it is extremely challenging to find proper solutions. One day you have to find solutions for a pharmaceutical research company and another day you have to develop a cost controlling system for a construction company.

Why did this area of work appeal to me?

Although my day totally depends on clients needs, meaning that most of the time in the morning I have no idea how my day will look like, it is so full of challenges that allow me to show creativity and knowledge and, of course, each day is a day for learning.

Skills/qualifications I use in my job?

Researching, legislation understanding, financial modelling, budgeting, accounting etc.

At the moment, I’m thinking about a position in an internation company which would “force” me to learn legislation of more than 10 different countries. The position requires a lot of learning in the field of different tax laws (corporate, VAT, payroll etc) and real a challenge of usage of the Double taxation agreement.

Advice to students

My piece of advice to students

Read, learn, learn how to find information which you will need, use your imagination to solve issues, do not stop to develop yourself and never focus too much on just one field.
