About the job

Main responsibilities

Attending Court to represent the Crown or defendants in criminal trials

Typical day

Travelling to various Courts around the country; legal research; drafting skeleton arguments; mention hearings; trials; sentencing hearings; bail applications; legal arguments.

What do I enjoy about my job?

The advocacy!

Challenging aspects

The hours; difficult cases can be emotionally taxing

Why did this area of work appeal to me?

Able to practice criminal law on the 'front line'; everyday is varied; dynamic practice; brilliant traditions at the Bar; ability to engage in advocacy and thinking on your feet.

Skills/qualifications I use in my job?

Legal knowledge; advocacy; persuasive skills; people skills when dealing with clients
