Graduate case studies
Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.
Plan, execute, and finalise projects within triple constraints of delivering on time, within budget and scope objectives, including acquiring resources and coordinating efforts of team members in order to deliver projects according to plan. Identify, communicate, and resolve project issues and risks. Develop risk mitigation plans. Communicate project status to project stakeholders. Coach, mentor, and motivate team members to take action and accountability for assigned work. Direct project portfolios.
Since I work in several projects in parallel, each of them being at different phase, my typical day may include several tasks, most of them described above.
I like organising things and working in a group. I also enjoy having no specific routine.
The challenging aspects have to do with the integration of different technologies, R&D and production issues, as well as customer requirements.
Everyday, I have to deal with time/cost/quality management. Also risk management is very important. I believe that it helps a lot if one is a good communicator and decision maker.
I have had lots of training; they had to do with company’s products, project management theory and tools, as well as business management s/w. However now I also perform as an instructor for project management issues, either for companies or students.

I like project management a lot; based on that aspect, and I would like approach fields that cultivate/promote innovation.
First they have to learn to be engineers and then to manage engineers. Apart from a degree in a science field, they also have to study project management.
