Analysing business models and methods of service delivery

What do I enjoy about my job?

I enjoy working across lots of different departments working together towards one goal. Project work usually involves working with lots of different people to make something 'new' happen.

Why did this area of work appeal to me?

I am interested in working in the public/third sector.

Skills/qualifications I use in my job?

Although it is necessary to have a degree to apply for this job, I do not directly apply the knowledge learned in my degree in this role. Instead the experiences I gained at University outside of my degree in the world of work and through the University's volunteering scheme have provided me with the skills for work.

Training I receive as part of my job

I attend in house management training and am also studying for a Management Certificate through the Institute for Leadership Management; this study is sponsored by the council.

I completed Prince 2 Project Management qualification which helped me to gain my current position.

Where do I see myself in the future?

At the moment I am looking to continue to progress as a Project Manager and increase the variety of topics on which I work.

Advice to students

My piece of advice to students

Work experience is absolutely key.

If paid work is not forthcoming then volunteering is just as attractive to a potential employer. Sheffield Students' Union run a Volunteering department who can advise on opportunities. I personally volunteered as a classroom assistant in the Schools Programme.
