Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.

About the job

Main responsibilities

Managing technology related issues with our manufacturing sites for PET, PVC, PS, POM, and PMMA.

Typical day

There are four key strands to my day:
1. organise for new reactions.
2. analyse results.
3. change strategies.
4. round off the day with some office work.

What do I enjoy about my job?

Making new discoveries.

Challenging aspects

To convert all the research work into something commercial.

Invention.

You need to be able to conduct research.

I regularly attend conferences.


Career information

Brief history since leaving University

2005 - Back to SABIC and worked for almost one year.

2005 - 2009 Completed a PhD from the University of Manchester.

2009 - current - Working at SABIC.

Where do I see myself in the future?

Continuing in research and supporting academia.


Advice to students

My piece of advice to students

To do this sort of work you have to show the ability to complete research.

Make sure you produce a carefully written CV before applying for jobs.

Other comments

I have to say that the Masters program that I attended was excellent.
