Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.

Main responsibilities

Teaching, education research, administration

Typical day

Designing classroom and online courses. Planning and teaching lessons, grading. Liaising with students and other (full-time and part-time teachers. Planning and carrying out quantitative education research. Preparing presentations and papers for conferences. Attending meetings, creating and checking entrance exams, participating in open days etc.

What do I enjoy about my job?

The freedom and flexibility. The co-workers - we have a great bunch of people who have similar ideas on education and are committed to making a vision for the students come to pass. I also enjoy learning a lot about using computers / software for teaching.

Challenging aspects

The Japanese language is required for communication with other faculty and staff.
The students often have poor academic communication and logical thinking skills.

Why did this area of work appeal to me?

I love teaching and the research is interesting.

Japanese language, computer skills, negotiation, pedagogical, lateral thinking.

Training I receive as part of my job

Nothing formal but I am able to go to conferences and summer schools etc as I see fit.
