Graduate case studies
Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.
Responsible for the provision, quality and timely delivery of work based on client agreed briefs and targets. I am part of the Asset Integrity Management department of ABB Consulting which encompasses a wide range of activities including: rotating equipment engineering, asset life extension, equipment integrity and 'fitness for purpose', legislative compliance, reliability improvement, risk-based hazard assessments, application of best practice and operational improvement in the oil & gas, chemical, petro-chemical, pharmaceutical, processing and power generation industries.
To a large extent I do not have a typical day due to the varied nature of the work that I'm involved in. I may be involved in a number of projects at a time in the office if I am not seconded to work full time at a client site.
Getting involved in varied work for different clients and the freedom to choose which projects I would like to be involved in at any one time
Time management
The variety of projects, locations, clients etc was of particular interest
Engineering, project management, interpersonal skills
Mostly internal training courses (technical and non technical) although I have been on external technical training to cover rotating equipment.
I would like to stay in the oil and gas/petrochemical/phamaceutical sectors gaining experience and moving upwards.
Have an open mind when it comes to possible career paths and don't be afraid of making mistakes or trying different things
