Thom -
Dean of Durham Law School & Professor of Law and Government

Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.

About the job

Main responsibilities

As Dean of our Law School, I am leading a transformational growth of our department as we double in size and focus on core research strengths. I've developed new critical strategic planning, people and progression strategies and introduced new managerial structures over a short time period with immediate rises in league tables.

As a Professor of Law and Government, I am very active in research and impact activities. I have written several books (most notably 'Becoming British' in 2016) and advise the Labour Party. I'm a frequent commentator on television and other media discussing immigration with over 800 appearances since 2013.

Typical day

As a professor, a typical day would involve working on research and some teaching. But as Dean of a leading law school, no such thing as a typical day and lots of new challenges.
