About the job

Main responsibilities

Solicitor running clinical negligence claims.

Typical day

Hours roughly 9 - 6.30/7.00

Progressing files, dealing with clients, medical experts, counsel & courts.

Business development - networking etc.

What do I enjoy about my job?

Successful outcomes for clients.

Challenging aspects

Can be quite all consuming.

Why did this area of work appeal to me?

People orientated; diversity.

My Sheffield LLB & Legal Diploma (LPC).

Training I receive as part of my job

Two-year training contract & continual professional development requirements.


Career information

Brief history since leaving University

Qualified 2010 after the 2 year training contract.

Where do I see myself in the future?

Senior manager / partner in law firm.


Advice to students

My piece of advice to students

Don't go into law unless you have a 2.1 and good A-levels. Don't expect to be well paid to train, and anticipate many years as a paralegal before securing a training contract.

The profession is particularly competitive at the moment.
