Dear Ms Jones
I am writing to apply for the role of Communications Assistant, as advertised on LinkedIn.
I am especially interested in the role with you, as I have recent communications and PR experience with Browns Tools of Newcastle, a small engineering company that I thoroughly enjoyed. This experience made me realise that this is an area I would like to pursue as a career. Browns is a small engineering company, and while at first I did not know anything about tool making, I enjoyed building my knowledge of the company and its products so that I could develop strong marketing messages. From your website I can see that you are a family firm with a strong connection to your local area, and that this comes across in your brand and marketing. I would be keen to contribute my ideas and creativity to helping your business succeed.
In my time at Browns I used strong communication skills to carry out a full range of communications activities, including developing a marketing campaign for the annual open day, liaising with local press, creating digital and physical content including flyers and social media posts. The open day attracted 460 visitors, and feedback shows that the social media posts were an important reason for them attending the event. I used analytics to identify the posts that attracted the most traffic, and the recommendations I made for future use of social media have been put into practice. I enjoyed using analytics to evaluate the impact of the campaign.
I am confident that I have the organisation and management skills necessary to be successful in this role. This is demonstrated by my final year when I worked part-time, was a member of the university hockey team taking a leadership role, as well as successfully coping with final year studies. I plan ahead to make sure I can meet deadlines, and feel that attention to detail is one of my strengths, which helps with successful project management.
This role will require research and analytical skills. I achieved a first in my dissertation, which involved reading through original documents on local politics in the late 1800’s. I identified the criteria and search terms I was looking for, and systematically worked through documents, logging relevant elements and then taking an overview to synthesise the key themes. My supervisor’s feedback was that I showed a meticulous and creative approach to this task.
I hope you find that my skills and experience meet your requirements for this position. I would be happy to discuss my application with you in more detail, and look forward to hearing from you soon.
Regards.
Charlie Smith
