Dedicated support for students from under-represented groups.There are a range of events and opportunities for you get involved in whilst at university. See below for details of activities happening at the Careers Service, at the University more widely, and externally at other organisations. |
This interactive session will give you insights into what employers look for in both in-person and online interviews, and how effective preparation can help increase your confidence. Participants will also be introduced to different strategies on how to approach different types of interview questions, as well as time to practise interview questions within the session. | We now have access to a room in the Diamond that can be booked out for those of you who need a quiet space for interviews and assessment centres. To book you will need to send evidence of your interview or assessment centre to careers@sheffield.ac.uk and you will be granted access. |

You can apply for up to £500 per academic year to cover the expenses related to taking part in an opportunity to develop your employability, which is not work experience or a placement. Funding is limited and, although not allocated on a first-come-first-served basis, we will prioritise applications received from students from groups that are currently under-represented in higher education. | If you are considering postgraduate study, such as a Masters course or a PhD, this talk will help you to decide what's in it for you and where it might lead. It will also provide you with an overview of where to look for courses, the application process (including writing a personal statement) and funding opportunities. |

If you don't have any work experience, The Student Jobshop can help you connect with like-minded students and increase your employability, via the No Work Experience - Student Support Network. Now a Facebook group, this is an online support network and features topics of discussion, top tips for getting your first part-time job, and any relevant job vacancies. | The mySkills portfolio is an innovative way for you to assess, record, build and reflect on your own skills profile. Your profile and record of personal development will be unique to you and will be invaluable in creating your CV and strengthening job applications and interview performance. |

Applications are now open for Transforming and Activating Places (TAP). TAP is an enhanced work experience programme that brings together undergraduate students of Arts & Humanities and Social Sciences from underrepresented backgrounds, and businesses and organisations. | City Connections offers Social Science students who meet one or more widening participation criteria the chance to hear from inspirational alumni and develop confidence in networking. This year the event is running online and it's taking place on 31st March. Alumni include the Head of Creative Strategy at Instagram and Facebook and Global Co-Head of Private Equity at White and Case LLP. |

The Covid-19 pandemic is causing significant anxiety among students with regards to future prospects. In collaboration with the Students' Union we are bringing you Careers Week. The week will be made up of online workshops, talks, and employer and alumni panels focused on helping you feel more self-confident, reassured and enabled to take proactive steps towards your professional future. Bookings are now open. | Applications are now open for the Sheffield Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) scheme. SURE enables you to work on a research project with an academic supervisor. Successful SURE students are awarded a bursary for their projects up to a maximum of £1,250 for a six-week full-time project. |

Come celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) with Google Students, in collaboration with EmployAbility! This virtual two day event series recognises the achievements of women in tech and business, and will feature speakers, workshops, and the opportunity to connect with students from around the world. Their goal is to create spaces where women who are at the start of their careers can find community, inspiration, and empowerment. | PwC have launched their new Black Talent in Business programme for first year students. During this three-day paid programme you’ll get an insight into what a career at PwC could look like, and you’ll virtually meet with mentors and buddies who’ll represent the variety of opportunities available across PwC. This programme could lead to an offer of an internship or 11 month placement, with the aim of securing a graduate role on completion of your degree. |

Frontline is a social work charity working to ensure that all children in England have a safe and stable home, and that their life chances are not limited by their social or family circumstance. As part of Frontline's ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion they are running several insight days designed to give people from a wide range of backgrounds an opportunity to understand what a career in child protection social work is like. Insight days are open to all, but they especially welcome attendance from those who identify as the following: BAME, men, and / or first-generation university students. | Teach First is a charity working to support the UK's most disadvantaged young people. Get a taste for the classroom and a head start on your career with their two-day Student Taster Online. Get practical experience in things like presenting and problem-solving whilst also building the skills they look for in their teachers. The taster will feature skills-based workshops, networking opportunities and the chance to plan and teach a real mini lesson. |
