Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.

About the job

Main responsibilities

Responsible for oversight of recruitment marketing for Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses within the College of Medical and Dental Sciences at the University of Birmingham.

Developing and delivering marketing plans, measuring performance against targets and seeing process of recruiting students from enquiry to application to student.

Typical day

Dealing with day to day issues from my team, meeting with a variety of stakeholders within the college.

Analysing data to see where opportunities for recruitment lie.

Booking advertising (especially digital advertising) and ensuring processes and policies are adhered to.

Developing and writing a variety of plans, strategies and proposals.

What do I enjoy about my job?

The variety of the day to day and the people I get to work with. I also enjoy the good collaborative working relationships I have built up.

Challenging aspects

Persuading others of the correct direction of travel for marketing courses. Having constructively challenging conversations and achieving buy-in to marketing plans.

Why did this area of work appeal to me?

A new fresh challenge having spent 13 years so far working in Higher Education.

Skills/qualifications I use in my job?

Communication, persuasion, dealing with large volumes of complex information, time management, diplomacy and good humour!

I am intending to take my CIM Marketing Diploma in the near future and I would like to achieve promotion to a Marketing Manager/Head of Marketing role in the future.
