Graduate case studies
Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.
I work on the full stack of technologies the bike share scheme uses for the web functionality including: the website, online bike management dashboard, user/rider mobile app and the server/backend functionality.
My days range from: spending the whole day writing, testing, reviewing, and deploying code; discussing, planning and architecting new and existing features with different teams within the organisation.
I am constantly learning, the organisation uses cutting edge technology (React, React Native, GraphQL and many others). This gives me the chance to learn and be challenged on a daily basis.
The most challenging aspects of my job are typically regarding requirements capture or the freshness of the technology.
As the bike share scheme has not yet been launched it means that there are many features and requirements that are not yet planned/scoped out, meaning there is lots of research and testing required and frequent re-architecting of the web services.
Also, my company uses the latest technology for its product, this means that on a regular basis we experience situations where the tools/features we need have not yet been implemented by the creators of the tech, and we therefore need to create that functionality or think of alternatives.
Everyone in the company strongly believes in the mission: "make cycling safer in cities", and as a cyclist myself I strongly believe in the mission too.
Research, learning, writing code and analysing/solving problems.
Software Engineer for 1 year 2 months at Plentific.
Full Stack Engineer currently since November 2019.
I see myself becoming a Tech Lead, a CTO (Chief Technology Officer) or a Product Manager of a small start-up.
This is a great career for continuing your learning after uni. If you work for a start-up in East London like me then it can feel like your uni experience has not stopped especially with the culture.
