Graduate case studies
Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.
Ensuring wider teams across Personal Banking are aligned to the strategy of the business
Articulating complex processes/changes/data and turning this into an easy to understand format suitable for an executive level
Supporting senior leaders across Personal Banking with decision making
Representing the business area at bank wide forums - especially those related to innovation
A typical day doesn't exist!
Depends on what the team is working on - sometimes we will spend the day working together as a team and sometimes we work on our own things or have calls / meeting to attend
Most common activities include data analysis and slide deck preparation for meetings
The work is so varied, as a strategy team we have full visibility of what is happening across the bank and have the opportunity to work on lots of different things from Technology Innovation to Cost Reduction.
I have a great team and the people in general are friendly and helpful across the bank, this was important especially in my first few months.
As a lot of our teams work goes all the way up to our Bank Executive Committee and CEO I have to ensure that my work is consistently up to the required standards
Always had an interest in Finance especially the Strategy element of it
During my 2nd and 3rd year of my degree I did the RBS summer internship over 3 months. On the back of this I was offered a place on the Graduate Scheme, I started this in September 2017 after graduating in the summer.
After being on the Graduate Scheme for 1 year (of the 2 years that the scheme runs) I was offered a permanent position with a team (Strategy, Personal & Premier Banking) I had previously worked closely with. I started this role in October 2018 and this is the role I am currently doing.
Hope to be a Senior Manager by 30 but have no idea where my career will take me as the banking industry is constantly changing. Would like to continue working in Strategy, maybe at a Corporate/Group level...
Later this year I am starting studying for CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Level 1 which the bank is funding.
Apply for internships! They are the easiest way to get onto a Grad Scheme. Don't think "I'll just apply after Uni" as it is far more competitive in final year and after you leave. I didn't have to worry about any of that in my final year and could just concentrate on finishing my degree.
