Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.

About the job

Main responsibilities

Planning, delivering and teaching lessons for KS2 (aged 10 - Year 5) children.
Taking children on expeditions based on the natural environment of Nepal.
Delivering the English National Curriculum within a multicultural context.
Developing the needs of all learners, who have a range of English language capabilities.

Typical day

Teaching Guided Reading, Maths, English and the International Primary Curriculum. Meeting parents to discuss their children's progress. Attending CPD with other teachers. Volunteering on Saturdays to deliver teacher training to local teachers.

What do I enjoy about my job?

Interacting with children and helping to build their conversation skills and curiosity.

Why did this area of work appeal to me?

Was unsure of career path upon graduation - volunteered abroad in Sri Lanka teaching English after leaving Sheffield, and then decided that this was the route for me. I took part in the Teach First Leadership Development Programme in Norwich for two years, where I qualified as a primary teacher.

Skills/qualifications I use in my job?

Ability to communicate information succinctly.
Leadership skills in running a classroom, effectively.
