In-house Translator/Project Manager

Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.

About the job

Main responsibilities

Translation and proofreading of all kinds of texts from English and Spanish into Italian. Managing all the translation project of the clients that have been assigned to me.

Typical day

Typical isn't really a word that applies to this job. Every day is different. Some days I can be more focused on translating and proofreading, other days can revolve more around project management or an equal amount of both.

Career information

Brief history since leaving University

After leaving university, I came back to Italy. I was unemployed for about a month, then in November 2017 I started to work for a transport and logistics company, a job that allowed me to improve my organisation and problem-solving skills. I stayed there for about 3 months. Right after this, in March 2018, I got my first big job as a freelance translator. However, I wanted to gain more translation experience and develop my skills, so I moved back to the UK (in Henley-on-Thames) and in April 2018 I started a 3 months long internship at a translation agency. The experience was so good that they hired me as a freelance translator and I consistently work for them since then. After the internship I came back to Italy and in October 2018 I was hired by a translation agency in Bergamo as a In-house Translator/Project Manager.

Where do I see myself in the future?

Translation is my passion, so I definitely see myself working in this field in the future. However, I plan on moving on to a full-time freelance career as soon as I feel confident enough in my translation skills and as soon as I have enough clients to economically support myself.
