Graduate case studies
Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.
I am currently a strategy lead within the Home Office. My role covers the following:
- Support the Permanent Secretary in driving change across the Home Office;
- Run significant projects, like the department’s submissions to Spending Reviews and the Strategic Capabilities Board; and
- Work across the Home Office to bring together policies and plans into a coherent, Strategic Plan.
Day-to-day activity involves a mixture of generating ideas on tackling some of the most challenging questions facing the country, presenting to senior leaders, and bringing a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders together, as well as much more.
I worked for a period of time in the private sector before joining the Civil Service.
I have worked in three different roles in the Civil Service, at the Home Office (my current role), at the Cabinet Office and at the Ministry of Justice. In my role at the Cabinet Office, I initiated a project on loneliness which lead to the formation of a new PM priority. Within this role, I provided advice to the Prime Minister on government approach to tackling loneliness and developed key policies for inclusion within the loneliness strategy.
My roles in the private sector were focussed on consumer and business research within communications and magazines publications.
I also completed a masters (not at Sheffield) in the history of dress, which led to role I undertook at the Victoria and Albert Museum in their curatorial department.
Interested in moving to NGO / charitable sector in the future, or potentially roles within the NHS or local government.
