Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.

About the job

Main responsibilities

Self employed/sole trader. I run all aspects of the business.

Typical day

Day to day is a mix of 1:1 sessions with clients and teaching classes at several different studios across central London.

What do I enjoy about my job?

Working with different people and solving the problems each of them face.

Challenging aspects

Generating a steady stream of clients and the admin side of running the business.

Why did this area of work appeal to me?

I have a passion for health and fitness and want to help people reach their sporting goals.

Skills/qualifications I use in my job?

Communication and being personable.

Brief history since leaving University

REPS L3 Diploma in personal training (2016);
Crossfit Level 1 Trainer (2016);
British Weightlifting L1 (2018);
Continued professional development through private study.

Where do I see myself in the future?

Running my own fitness facility emptying a number of coaches who have been trained under my methodology.


Advice to students

My piece of advice to students

Its tough as its a very competitive market. but find something you love, your niece area and go for it.

Other comments

For me, having had a corporate career was not for me. being self employed is much more challenging but all the achievements are very fulfilling as they are a direct result of my work. I love working for myself and being my own boss.
