Graduate case studies
Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.
Enhancing language development for children with disabilities
Fostering independence by teaching adaptive skills
Encouraging inclusion by working with the client's community
Academic skill training to develop basic skills in reading, writing and number
Assisting clients, family and friends work on AAC programs
I engage in client's home schooling programs within their homes. These sessions are typically of 3-4 hour duration during morning hours. Evening hours are reserved to higher functioning clients who attend school.
The variety in terms of client needs, freedom and learning that happens everyday.
Understanding the different cultures and working in a manner that does not interfere with their way of life.
I was drawn to working with these clients because I saw that the need for services was greater than service providers could cope. It was ideal for me to learn a new market and to gauge the direction that my professional life should take, since I moved to Canada only recently.
My skills as a special educator, speech and language therapist and counseling psychologist all contribute towards my current work because I am a firm believer of the holistic approach.
Special Needs Educator, 2014 - Present

I wish to develop a holistic approach to therapy in natural surroundings - e.g. farm. I am currently working towards this goal by seeking work and volunteering for different organisations.
I also hope to spread understanding regarding disability, through the social lens, in communities where knowledge is sparse. The first step I hope to take is to translate the book I authored [Invincible: Stories of Hope and Courage by individuals with disabilities] to the languages spoken in Sri Lanka and take it to the masses.
My personal journey as a part time remote location student, is that students must be passionate about their chosen studies, and pursue it without being way laid by sub goals.
