Graduate case studies
Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.
Lead the SEO strategy for Campus Society.
A typical day involves a lot of diversity and good organisation is key due to the nature of SEO, which is a very broad job. From brainstorming creative ideas for original content, to researching competitors' SEO strategy and to advising the development team on technical SEO implementation, the role comes with a lot of diversity and responsibilities.
I enjoy all aspects of it because in SEO you can never get bored or stuck doing the same thing. From development work which can get very technical to highly creative and data driven pieces, SEO allows you to develop a variety of hard skills as well as soft ones such as people management, charing meetings, etc.
The fact that search engines regularly change their guidelines that you have to abide by, makes it a bit more difficult to stay on top of the latest news. The job is also quite complex and it would be realistic to say that you don't always end up working with people who know a lot about it so finding the right way to explain concepts and set expectations can be a fun challenge.
I became interested in online marketing and SEO appealed to me in particular due to the variety involved in running a successful SEO campaign. I was especially keen on developing skills to drive large amounts of traffic to websites.
Google Analytics IQ Certificate;

I was still working on my dissertation when I got a job at a digital marketing agency with a particular focus on foreign languages. I continued to work hard and a year after my graduation I moved to London to join a bigger digital agency.
Since then I have worked for a number of digital agencies gaining valuable experience and learning how to manage big responsibilities by working with large, high profile clients.
I shortly moved on to work for international brands such as Thomas Cook and Knight Frank, leading the SEO strategy nationally but also globally.
After several beautiful years of corporate environment, it was time for a change and I am now part of the Campus Society team, a fast-growing tech start-up in London.
There are no specific SEO qualifications required for the job although a wide range of skills is needed. Additionally, having some of the below qualifications can definitely be helpful:
Google Analytics IQ Certificate;
Google AdWords Fundamentals Certificate;
Scrum.
Staying in the digital eco-system.
Be ambitious and don't give up. SEO is a very rewarding industry to be in!
