Self-employed Swimming Teacher

Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.

About the job

Main responsibilities

Teaching swimming for children and adults.

Typical day

Planning lessons and reviewing health and safety and risk assessments. teaching swimming and assessing swimmers and evaluating my work at the end of the day.

What do I enjoy about my job?

Swimming appeals to me because it is an art and requires a lot of creativity and technical aspects to teach.

Challenging aspects

Working with children is very challenging since the responsibility and the well-being of a child is paramount, especially, when the work involves health and safety and risks issues, in this case, water.

Why did this area of work appeal to me?

It is rewarding and I feel content teaching my favourite sport.

Level 2 swimming teacher.

Brief history since leaving University

PhD student at the University of Leeds; Graduated with a Masters degree in Molecular Scale Engineering.

Lifeguard and swimming teacher.

Where do I see myself in the future?

I see myself as an entrepreneur. I am interested in environmental technology which spans wide areas such as transportation, waste management and energy.
