About the job

Main responsibilities

I support the Retail Sales channel, within our UK Marketing organisation, meaning I'm responsible for the reporting of their performance to the Finance Manager and the Sales channel manager. I'm also responsible for the Retail budget for the following year, applying costs & margins to volumes and calculating an Net Income number for the channel. I also have several corporate reporting responsibilities including the monthly balance sheet and cash flow variance analysis.

Typical day

A typical day usually involves performing analysis of the Retail Sales channel's performance, from a volume and a monetary basis, using various metrics and reports I have built.

Career information

Brief history since leaving University

I began as contractor with the same oil company in September 2012, taking a role in the Sales Reconciliations group.
In January 2013 I moved to the Product Accounting group, and I became permanent in September 2013, looking after Duty implications of stock movements and our payables process.
In April 2015 I moved to the then Reporting group, which has developed in to the Finance & Performance Analysis group, where I have been supporting the Retail Sales channel.
I finished my CIMA exams in February 2016, and became a fully chartered management accountant in May 2017.

Where do I see myself in the future?

I'm moving internally in to a new role within the F&PA group in our London office in January 2018.
After that, I'll be looking to gain supervisory experience, some experience within roles outside of finance (only temporarily) and perhaps some experience abroad.
