Graduate case studies
Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.
Improving clients' websites so they capture more traffic from Google searches.
Typical tasks include analysing search trend data, making technical suggestions to improve websites, creating/improving website content - essentially anything that will improve a website.
There are many ways to end up at the same endpoint, so each digital marketer will have their own way of going about things. My regular tasks and workflow can be built around how I work best.
Lots of deadlines, and lots of people depending on my work. This can result in quite a lot of pressure.
It's the kind of thing that can't be perfected - there's always more that can be done, which means I'm never bored whilst working.
I do a lot of writing, so coming from a subject grounded in essay writing has been useful. My work is also very analytical. My background in History isn't an obvious fit for this, but I think the analysis and evaluation aspects that my degree taught me have been invaluable.
I had picked up a few small freelance gigs whilst at Uni, so carried on with these upon graduating, before moving to work at a digital agency. I stayed there for a while before moving to a more senior position at another agency (whilst carrying on to freelance on the side).
Since Feb 2017 I've only been working with my own clients.
Either still freelancing or launching an agency.
No plans to take any further qualifications at the moment.
Hit the ground running. Try to pick up some freelance/project based work as soon as possible. The pay will probably be terrible to start with, but it gives you experience. Digital marketing is a really competitive space, so you need to be doing something that sets yourself apart from everyone else. If you're not ready to pick up your own clients, then start a blog/your own website and practice on that (I really wish I did this!).
