I intend to learn more medicinal chemistry and take on a leadership role. I may try to get into big Pharma in a few years time
Chemistry is a competitive area, particularly for high-up, well-paid jobs. To get anywhere you need to work hard and plan years ahead. Always look to broaden your experience with placements in other institutions, industry or abroad. Don't expect to stroll into a high position, there arn't many around.
Only do chemistry at PhD and as a career if you really love chemistry. It's not the place to earn mega-money and is hard work with lots of competition. If you love chemistry, it can be more than just a job and you can learn something new every day and have your hard work rewarded by solving the challenges you experience day-to-day.
