- Copywriting for external collateral;
- General marketing;
- Streamlining internal reporting / deliverables across the Company to ensure we deliver on time.

What do I enjoy about my job?

It's challenging. Preparing proposals is high pressure - you may only get a day to turn it around but it feels like such an achievement.

It's also great to constantly learn about the place where you live. By working on Projects across various sectors such as Cinemas, Hotels etc you have a really good understanding of what's happening around you and are fully engaged. This can also translate into what to do at the weekend i.e. go to that great bar that you know has just been finished!

Challenging aspects

The role can be high pressure and there are certainly challenging personalities at times. Whilst there are more women entering the work place, the % of M:F remains high.

Why did this area of work appeal to me?

It's an exciting sector!

It might not be the most glamorous but at some stage everyone will rent a place / buy a house. Working in the industry gives you endless inside knowledge. This is of enormous value from both a rental and investment viewpoint.

Across Australia the construction industry makes up approx. 9% of the country's GDP so you'll never be out of work. In addition Melbourne's population growth across the next 35 years is an estimated 3.4 million. The industry is booming.

The Property sector is also tangible. It's interesting seeing the progress made from initial design and cost planning through to Project completion - you quite literally get to see the bricks and mortar.

Skills/qualifications I use in my job?

My undergrad degree has really assisted with research, writing Proposals and editing.

Advice to students

My piece of advice to students

Try and get a job in an industry that you're genuinely interested in.

Most of us have to start at the bottom but you'll quickly work your way up (and get over the more menial tasks!) if you're interested in the sector.
