Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.
I'm responsible for the organisation's operational functions, covering credit monitoring, business development and due diligence in equal measure. I also supervise the accounting function in the East African office and am currently working on transitioning the company's African base from Arusha to Nairobi.
Meeting potential investors and clients, attending conferences, some of which I speak at, ensuring employee expenses are well documented, ensuring payroll is run on time, engaging vendors and other general office management.
The company is helping millions of people gain access to energy, and in my capacity as head of operations, I'm helping the company operate in an efficient manner to deliver its mission.
Some people can be difficult to manage, however I have learnt that patience is key to dealing with all types of people.
The company is impactful in a very positive way, and as someone who has varied experience in financial services, I am enjoying being in operations as it gives an overview of all the various functions within the organisation.
