Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.

About the job

Main responsibilities

Performing calculations for pension schemes, communicating results to the consultants.

Typical day

Ongoing work on pension scheme valuation, plus transfer values and putting together reports.

What do I enjoy about my job?

The calculation side of it as it is interesting to learn how valuations and calculations are done.

Challenging aspects

The study can be hard but the work I do helps with that.

Why did this area of work appeal to me?

I wanted to use my maths degree in work and continue learning whilst also working. I had experience in pensions from a previous job.

Skills/qualifications I use in my job?

Mathematics degree, particularly in study.

Brief history since leaving University

Financial planning administrator at Trigon Pensions Limited for one year. Actuarial analyst at Hughes Price Walker Limited from September 2014 til present.

Where do I see myself in the future?

Continuing with my study and progressing further in my work.


Advice to students

My piece of advice to students

Make sure it is what you want to do as it can be tough. However it is rewarding when you pass each exam and gain more experience.
