Associate in the financial services regulatory team. Working on diverse legal issues for a variety of financial institutions.

Typical day will involve research tasks, drafting, client communications and complex problem solving.

What do I enjoy about my job?

Great people, challenging and interesting work, international elements and lots of client contact opportunities

Challenging aspects

Financial services is a complex and constantly evolving area of law that requires both commercial awareness as well as black-letter legal understanding. We are often at the forefront of new technologies and structures which requires careful application of the law.

Why did this area of work appeal to me?

The legal field appealed to me as a challenging area of work that combines technical skill with client contact. I found I enjoyed more complex legal questions which led me to specialise in financial regulation.

Skills/qualifications I use in my job?

Legal analysis, project management, problem solving and client management.


Career information

Brief history since leaving University

After the GDL I went straight to complete the Legal Practice Course in 2014. I began my training contract with Baker McKenzie in March 2015 and qualified as an associate in March 2017.

Where do I see myself in the future?

Current focus is to progress within my speciality and increase my technical knowledge


Advice to students

My piece of advice to students

Work experience is very important and students should consider vacation schemes, open days and more informal law firm opportunities early in their studies.
