Graduate case studies
Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.
Support desk. Logging and fixing software issues for clients.
Discussing issues with clients, performing tests on systems, researching fixes for issues.
Debugging and working with intricate software.
Dealing with difficult clients.
I first got into it because I was interested in both the technology and the financial side of things. I like to see how the financial world works and to be a part of it, and the software side of things really plays to my strengths.
I use the technical aspects of my degree, i.e the programming skills I learned through it and a great deal of the problem solving skills I developed at university.
August 2014 - November 2016: Trading platform engineer at Fidessa PLC, another financial software company
November 2016 - Present: Product specialist at Charles River Developments.
Planning to get into the more technical side of things. Working at implementing systems and custom tech solutions, then once I have gained enough experience get into self-employed contracting, working client-side.
Don't feel you have to do a job that's absolutely relevant to your degree. It's very easy to move laterally when you are in the working world, and it's never too late to learn a new area e.g I studied Physics, but now work in the financial world.
