About the job

Main responsibilities

To ensure the smooth running of the Students' Union club nights and other events

Typical day

I normally arrive at work at 6pm, prepare the bars for the busy night ahead including - floating up tills, stocking up bars, arranging staffing, waste management and any other duties. The club opens at 11pm until 3.30am. My job to to make sure that the bars run efficiently while providing excellent customer service. Other duties include writing rotas, training staff, completing orders and general admin.

What do I enjoy about my job?

I work with up to 35 members of student bar staff so it is a very sociable role.

Challenging aspects

Maintaining a normal life while working until 4.30am in the morning.

Why did this area of work appeal to me?

There weren't many jobs available when I finished Uni so I just stuck with the job I did before. Also I could not sit in an office all day.

Skills/qualifications I use in my job?

None that I gained from my degree.

BIIAB Personal Licence
Counter terrorism awareness training

Where do I see myself in the future?

No idea, hopefully in a job where I have a normal sleep pattern and earn more money.

My area of study; Do it, it's really interesting
My career; Don't, it's hard work and not very rewarding as progression is limited
