Graduate case studies
I chose this course because it follows on from my undergraduate, exploring the way in which people learn. This course brings in principles of instructional design, which I find really interesting.
I had considered becoming a teacher before but I found that my interest lies more in the curriculum design rather than the teaching itself, which is why this course was such a good option. .
Literature search, creating graphics, implementing the modules on our online platform and applying instructional design principles.
My day is not always the same, particularly as I am still doing my Masters course. When I am working, I get in around 9am, check emails and begin my task for the day.
This could be researching the latest recommendations for breastfeeding or finding a specific point from a law on food labeling. I could then be researching graphics or creating my own.
I may have to proofread a module or think about the best structure to apply to a course. My day can then end anytime between 2pm and 6pm all depending on the amount of work I have.
July-September 2013: Volunteered in a summer camp in Romania teaching English
September 2013-June 2014: Worked as a conversation assistant in Spain. July 2014: Worked in a summer camp in Italy teaching English
September 2014-August 2015: Worked as an au pair in a small town in Germany
October 2015: Started my Masters at the LMU in Munich
April 2016: Started working as a scientific writing assistant
I really enjoy the work that I am currently doing and would like to continue working in instructional design within e-learning.
Get as much experience as possible. Make the most out of being at the University of Sheffield and the opportunities you have there. Apply for jobs where you don't meet all of the criteria as you might end up being just what they were looking for,
