Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.

About the job

Main responsibilities

Y6 teacher responsible for teaching 35 children in my class.
Science curriculum co-ordinator team.

Typical day

I get to school between 7.30 and 8am. Prepare for lessons, printing resources etc. My morning runs from 8.40am to 12noon. I spend most of lunch marking/ preparing resources and then teach again from 1pm to 3.20pm. I stay at school until 5/6pm attending meetings, marking and assessing, planning, producing further resources. There is also a lot of weekend and evening work.

What do I enjoy about my job?

Working with fantastic inquisitive children!

Challenging aspects

The increasing amounts of paperwork and scrutiny can make it difficult to have a work/life balance.

Why did this area of work appeal to me?

I enjoy working with children and love their enthusiasm. I wanted to inspire them to love learning.
