Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.
As MD I spend much of my time on current and future business and strategic development.
When in the office we often have IT/marketing projects which need attention, otherwise I am involved in bidding contracts, reviewing financial performance, managing people and resources.
We have an incredibly diverse customer base which means that the type of enquiries we receive are often technically challenging unique in nature; so working with our clients to solve this is very rewarding.
Test and measurement is a continuously developing field which means that we need to be up to date with the latest technology and products.
Technically challenging.
Although I am an engineer, I find that I use the knowledge gained during my MBA more frequently than my engineering degree.
Product knowledge tends to be provided by manufacturers selling the equipment whereas industry knowledge and intelligence comes from seminars and trade journals. As a Chartered Engineer I still keep close links with my own Institution –the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering, then an MBA followed by FIMechE
Scholarship from European Union at EU/Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation -three months in Tokyo, Japan studying Japanese Engineering and Management Techniques.
Three months in Chicago, USA working with the M&A team of British Steel Inc. as part of my MBA dissertation.
Set up a sister company to Inlec UK in Rayong Thailand (MMC Thailand Co. Ltd) specialising in calibration to the Oil & Gas, pharmaceutical, power and contracting sectors in Thailand and surrounding countries – Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar.
We have significant opportunities in our UK and overseas business so I see myself developing these businesses further. We are now representing Chinese manufacturers and are looking towards developing further penetration central European markets.
Gaining work experience in your chosen field demonstrates initiative and the opportunity to showcase your skillset. It also enables you to apply academic theory into practice.
