About the job

Main responsibilities

I have been employed by Thompson Jones for almost 3 years - I have been involved with pretty much all aspects of the business, in particular the accountancy and tax departments.
Every day is different that's why I enjoy my job.

Typical day

A typical day is hard to describe, every day is different. Our sector is very seasonal - with very busy periods all at different times of the year. For example, in January - everyone is working very hard on completing a huge list of tax returns and then we may not be back in the office for a few months after that whilst we are on year end audits.
I have been involved in a few niche cases which most people wouldn't get to witness at my age or with my experience. I have been working on a tax investigation for over 12 months now and its good to be involved with such complex and lengthy inquiries. I have taken particular interests in the nursery and farming markets and have enjoyed being involved with these clients.

Why did this area of work appeal to me?

If I am completely honest, I had no idea what I actually wanted to do with myself once I had finished University.
Business has always interested me as I have grown up around family who have all worked together in a family business for the last 60 years.
