Graduate case studies
Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.
Analytical work for various projects, overall project management, data gathering, government relations and looking for new project opportunities, plus many other things. (We are a small company.)
It is really hard to describe one. One day you might be preparing a tender, another you might be sitting and preparing a lengthy study report or you might be out in the field gathering research data, or if such a task arises, you might be doing translation work (besides English I also have a good knowledge of Russian). It is really hard to have a dull day.
Working for myself and having the possibility to apply my knowledge, and the freedom to try new things.
Well above all it is a private company and everything depends on you (including getting your salary), plus that working with local governments is a challenge of its own, but that is what makes life interesting :)
First of all territorial planning is heavily related to the EU funds and to the topic of my PhD which was governance related. Second, I am working for myself (it is a family company). Third I have always been interested in surveying technologies and the impact of technologies in general on policy-making. Who knows it might turn into a book one day and my job gives me good study material.
Research and data gathering skills. This when you realy find out how important is the pencil when you read something :)
I had to do a lot of reading on public procurement laws and spatial analysis (including GIS based)
As a successful entrepreneur in the field of surveying and territorial planning.
That is a tough one. Always be ready to learn and do new things, keep your mind open!
