Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.

About the job

Main responsibilities

Land acquisition, securing planning permissions, management of design and consultant teams, negotiating legal agreements, community consultation, department management. My responsibility within the company focusses on urban regeneration projects

Typical day

Liaison with development partners, liaison with Local Authority planning representatives, management of consultant team

What do I enjoy about my job?

Witnessing a development progress from an initial sketch drawing to becoming someone's home

Challenging aspects

Dealing with a variety of stakeholders whose interests are not always aligned and seeking to negotiate a compromised position

Why did this area of work appeal to me?

It is a varied role with the scope to make a genuine difference to the housing problems facing the UK, and most particularly London, and improving people's standard of living

Studies into urban regeneration and urban projects

Read up on the subject but most importantly visit and familiarise yourself with key projects and seek to understand the issues that have had to be overcome
