Main responsibilities

Administering to the recruitment of police Staff and Officers.

Typical day

Organising assessment days, liaising with line managers, applicants and staff. Advertising vacancies internally and externally.

What do I enjoy about my job?

The variety of the work.

Challenging aspects

Having to remember a number of vital details, processes and procedures.

Why did this area of work appeal to me?

I was related to the field of work I wish to pursue in local government.

Skills/qualifications I use in my job?

Computer skills, administrative skills, I do not use my qualifications but they nonetheless have given me transferable skills and they gave me the edge during my own recruitment.

Training I receive as part of my job

Training of systems and software.

Where do I see myself in the future?

Msc Social and Spacial Analysis - to obtain qualitative skills needed for career path e.g. Social researcher, analyst or market researcher etc.


Advice to students

My piece of advice to students

Find out what you want to do with your life and invest in that - It does not matter if it takes you a while. Carefully choose what kind of work you apply for and take up - it can open and/or close doors. Always demonstrate your versatility.
